Mrs. Chaunette Mrs. Chaunette began dancing at age three and hasn’t stopped! She began her dance studies in St. George, Utah and soon began dancing competitively with Super Steppers. She continued her dance education at Tueller School of Dance in Logan, Utah where she studied ballet, pointe, jazz, and tap. In high school she was on her award winning dance team all three years, the last year serving as captain and choreographer for the team. Dance team brought many competitions, including state titles, individual titles, awards, travel, and performance opportunities. Chaunette danced on college dance team and also choreographed both jazz and kickline competition routines at the collegiate level. She graduated from the University of Utah summa cum laude in 1996. Chaunette began the first dance team in Lancaster County at Indian Land Middle School, where she coached 4 successful years. She began teaching dance in 2008 when she started BridgeMill Dance in Indian Land, SC with 13 girls. By 2014, the private neighborhood studio had expanded to 96 dancers and her dream of opening a studio for all to join was realized. She is passionate about continuing her own dance education and over the last twelve years has attended numerous studio owner and instructor classes, workshops, conventions, and seminars. Chaunette wants to share her love of dance with ALL children and young adults in the area and ultimately develop talented dancers, and all-around happy and confident kids at Dance U.
Ms. Amanda grew up dancing in Irmo, South Carolina with an extensive training background from Dance World. She has been trained in ballet, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary, tap, and pointe. She was a part of the competition dance team at her studio and loved being on stage. In high school, Amanda danced for her high school dance team and became captain her senior year. She has performed in numerous dance recitals, concerts, competitions, and other events including, Rock Hill RockHettes Christmas performances. At DanceU, Amanda teaches a wide variety of classes and is the director of the hip hop crew. She loves teaching dance because she loves sharing a strong passion for dance with others and getting the opportunity to open kids up to the wonderful life of dance. Amanda is currently a fifth grade teacher and loves keeping dance in her life.
Mrs. Laurel was fortunate to train at the Edge in Los Angeles and also at Lou Conte and Giordano Dance Studios in Chicago while pursuing her professional career. She was selected as 1 of 28 out of 350+ candidates to be a professional cheerleader for the San Diego Chargers. She traveled extensively with the team and had many opportunities to perform and serve the community. She earned a BS in Physiology and Neuroscience with Honors from University of California San Diego in 1998. She also completed an Area of Focus in Fine Arts/Dance Performance under Sandra Foster King, Patricia Rincon, and Tony Caligagan and performed at the La JollaPlayouse annually in modern, jazz, and Latin styles. She was a 4 year member of the UCSD Dance Team and was the captain for two years. Laurel coached the UCSD Competitive Dance Team, danced on a semi-pro Hip Hop Team, and also trained competitively as a gymnast for ten years in her younger years. Mrs. Laurel is thrilled to share her passion and experience with the dancers at Dance U!
Ms. Dana is the current Artistic Director and Dance U Company Director at Dance U. Dana grew up in Sumter, SC where she began dancing at the age of 2. As a child, Ms. Dana earned a spot on the competition team at Miss Libby’s where she received training in tap, jazz, ballet, pointe, lyrical, contemporary, musical theatre, and hip hop. She has also had the opportunity to work with some of the top choreographers in the industry. Ms. Dana won several specialty awards and scholarships as a competitive dancer. She graduated from Winthrop University with a Bachelor of Science. At Winthrop she also studied dance and had the opportunity to perform at the American College Dance Festival. While finishing up her senior year at Winthrop, she was able to cheer professionally for the NFL while also teaching at Dance U. Ms. Dana has recently received training from Dance Teacher University at UNLV. Ms. Dana is passionate about building strong, confident dancers and sharing her expertise and love of dance with all!
Dance U was previously called BridgeMill Dance. Chaunette Marsh started the establishment in 2008 with 13 girls. It grew to 96 dancers including 23 boys by 2014. They realized that they should expand and share their love for dance with the entire community.
Mr. La'Brece began dancing at the age of 12 years old, from middle school dance class, he jumped straight to the competition team of a sprouting Rock Hill dance studio, La'Brece has received competitive training in Hip Hop, Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Contemporary, and Cheer. He has been a competitive dancer as well as an Allstar Cheerleader. From dancing at Cedar Point Rollercoaster Capital of America in Sandusky, Ohio, to being a quarter finalist on America's Got Talent with Inspire the Fire, La'Brece has enjoyed a wonderful youth filled with many dance opportunities. La'Brece has worked with fabulous choreographers and performers such as Laurianne Gibson, Debbie Allen, Alex Wong, Twitch, and many more. He has won many first place titles competing as a soloist during his years of competing as a dancer.
Ms. Chelsea began her training in Fort Wayne, IN, at New American Youth Ballet and Conservatory under the direction of Beth McLeish. She then studied ballet at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. Chelsea has spent summers at The Chautauqua Institution and The School of American Ballet. She has attended conventions and competitions including Jump, Hall of Fame, The Pulse on tour, Showstoppers and many more. She has spent the last six years as a company member with Charlotte Ballet performing works by Ohad Naharin, Jiri Kylian, George Balanchine, Johan Inger, Dwight Rhoden, and Sasha Janes. I am so excited to be part of Dance U’s faculty teaching ballet!
Ms. Valeria Valeria is a dance instructor based in the Carolinas that is trained in hip hop, jazz, pom, salsa, and ballet. She started dancing at the age of 11 and has been dancing on dance teams since the 7th grade consecutively. During her high school career, she went on to compete on America's Got Talent Season 7, making it all the way to the Live shows and Quarterfinals. She has gone on to perform at the DNC convention in 2012, Duke University, The Biltmore, and has opened for Travis Porter, as well as dance for Volume 4, an up and coming girl group based in Charlotte, NC. She followed her passion all the way to college, where she studied Dance Performance and Spanish at Winthrop University. From there she went on to dance on the collegiate team at Winthrop, The Garnet Girls, where they placed 2nd at CANAAM Nationals. She has assisted and choreographed for Northwestern High School Dance Team for 3 years.. Now, she spends her time traveling and doing master classes throughout the East Coast and she is so excited to start a new chapter at Dance U!!!
Ms. Kristen Miss Kristen studied many types of Dance at Starz Performing Arts Academy in Bluefield, West Virginia. She was a level 9 competitive gymnast. Miss Kristen went on to be a member of the Virginia Tech Hokies Varsity Co-Ed cheerleading squad cheering for Hokies football and basketball teams. She was featured in Sports Illustrated for the team. Miss Kristen has competed in the Miss America Organization. She has an extensive coaching background in acro, dance, cheer, and pageantry with students of all ages and levels. She has taught at the prestigious gymnastics and cheerleading camp, Woodward Extreme Sports Camp. Miss Kristen became a professional dancer with the Charlotte Checkers CheckMates and is now a professional NFL cheerleader! Go Panthers!
Mrs. Christa is an experienced ballet, jazz, tap, and hip hop dance instructor. She began her dance training at the age of three at an award winning dance academy in New Jersey. Her love of dance has continued throughout her high school and college career, where she performed at numerous prestigious venues across the United States. While attending Rutgers University, she was a performer and choreographer for the Rutgers Performing Dance Company. After graduating Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Economics, Christa spent the first part of her career in the business world working for several of the largest aerospace companies. While her days were spent supporting major acquisitions, her evenings were filled with dance. Christa continued to teach at several reputable dance schools in Northern Virginia to a broad range of ages and skill levels. She choreographed for the studio’s Nutcracker and musical theater performances, including Mary Poppins, Lion King, and The Little Mermaid.
Christa currently lives in Marvin, NC with her husband, 3 kids, and big lovable dog! She is excited to be part of the Dance U family and can’t wait to share her passion for dance with everyone.
Mrs. Jen, Office Manager: Jen has been our Office Manager since 2017. She graduated with a BA in Secondary Education and English in 1994. Jen has professional experience as an administrative assistant, in many roles in information technology, as well as, an educational assistant here in Lancaster County. She has lived here in Indian Land since 2006. Mrs. Jen is here to help our Dance U families!
Ms. Ginger has been dancing as long as she has been walking! She is a Fort Mill High School Dance Team alumni & trained at Center Stage Dance Academy. She is currently teaching ballet, tap, jazz, & strength/conditioning classes. Ginger is also CPR\AED certified through the YMCA & training with AFFA program. I am so happy to make an impact on children’s lives while challenging, accepting, changing, & inspiring youthful minds. I absolutely could not be more thrilled to be apart of the Dance U fam & looking forward to growing with all of our students this year!
